Marbled Teal

The Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust

The Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust is the largest international wetland conservation charity in the UK. Founded in 1946 by the artist and naturalist Sir Peter Scott (1909 - 1989), WWT has 9 visitor centres around the UK, where people can get closer to wetland birds like these 'Marbled Teal' and enjoy spectacular wetland landscapes.
Arundel is our local wetland, and is surrounded by ancient woodland and overlooked by the town's historic castle. The wetlands at Arundel are home to many rare species of wetland wildlife. This is complemented by the work on show in the new 'Eye of the Wind' wildlife art gallery.

Feeding Twites

Pulborough Brooks

In the scenic but easily accessible Arun valley, West Sussex, the RSPB has restored wet grassy meadows, which flood in winter. Controlled flooding gives a refuge to thousands of ducks, geese, swans and wading birds. Many breed in the summer, along with songbirds such as nightingales, and many colourful butterflies.

An attractive visitor centre is housed in a converted Sussex barn. Here begins a circular trail through hedge-lined lanes (2 miles/3.2 km and suitable for pushchairs and manual wheelchairs with a strong helper).
